Chalk Your Block
Ashlar Development hosted an event called “Chalk Your Block” that encouraged residents of their master-planned communities to safely connect with neighbors, and remain CDC compliant, by drawing in their driveway and the surrounding streets expressing appreciation and kindness to essential workers and first responders. The event showcased the residents’ strong sense of community as they came together to spread positivity, gratitude, and encouragement to their neighbors during a challenging time.
Disaster Relief
When disaster strikes, Ashlar is ready to lend a helping hand in the most distressing times for our communities.
Hurricane Harvey devastated Houston, particularly in the northeast/Humble area. Thankfully, The Groves remained afloat due to the community’s engineering team, though many were not as fortunate. The Groves’ Lifestyle Director immediately mobilized a resident volunteer team to help with community clean-ups and muck-outs to help our neighbors. The community also provided more than $60,000 in closing cost assistance to those who may have been impacted by the hurricane and contributed to charities supporting local Harvey recovery efforts.
Additionally, in recognition and support of the many local families recovering and seeking relocation following flooding in Houston from Tropical Storm Imelda in fall 2019, The Groves provided $45,000 in closing cost assistance on new contracts for new homebuyers.
Ashlar Development will continue to support our residents and the community in the unfortunate event of future natural disasters.
MS150
For several years, an Ashlar Development team has participated in the BP MS150, a 150-mile bike ride from Houston to Austin that fundraises for Multiple Sclerosis (MS) research for The MS Society. Ashlar has raised more than $67,000 for MS research to date and we look forward to continued participation in this amazing cause.
With a team of 25-45 riders participating each year, including several volunteers to support the cause along the way, it is a great way for the Ashlar team to build camaraderie while supporting an amazing cause, close to several of our executive team member’s hearts.

Operation Finally Home
In 2018, The Groves dedicated a lot to the Greater Houston Builders Association to build a new, custom-built and mortgage-free home to a local veteran family through a partnership with Operation Finally Home, a non-profit that provides homes to America’s military heroes.
The family moved into their new dream home in December 2018 following a dedication ceremony hosted at The Groves in recognition of this milestone.
