Leadership Team

Steve Yetts | President

Steve Yetts oversees all executive and operational activities for Ashlar including the growth strategy through oversight and coordination of acquisition opportunities including sourcing, due diligence, contracting and closing of real estate deals.

Prior to Ashlar Development, Yetts held the position of Senior Vice President for Crescent Communities responsible for all Texas operations in the Central region, overseeing five projects. Yetts served as vice president and general manager for Discovery Land Company’s 525-acre Vaquero community in Westlake, Texas. There, he oversaw the acquisition and development of the community and Tom Fazio golf course, as well as initiate and manage the development’s home-building division. Additionally, Yetts was Discovery Land Company’s Texas partner for Spanish Oaks, an upscale golf community in Bee Cave, Texas, where he managed development, operations and home building.

Yetts’ real estate involvement in the Dallas-Fort Worth market also includes property enhancements through planning, entitlements and land management efforts for Fort Worth-based Threshold Development Co. In the 1990s, he served as the regional vice president of land development with Mobil Land Development/Terrabrook Communities. There, he was responsible for the development and management activities for Dallas-Fort Worth communities such as Highland Shores, Stonebridge Ranch, Timarron and Aventerra. He also served as manager of land development for Carter and Burgess in Dallas, as well as working with Dallas-based Turner, Collie and Braden.

James D. Zimmermann, Jr. | Vice President, Residential

Jim Zimmermann is currently Vice President for Ashlar Development based in Houston, TX. Prior to Ashlar, Jim joined Crescent Communities as vice president, residential in May 2013. He was responsible for operations in the Houston office related to the acquisition, development and lot sales for Crescent Communities’ new master planned communities.

Zimmermann previously spent 15 years as general manager of the land division for MHI-McGuyer Homebuilders. At its peak, the division managed a $300 million portfolio of land under development. Prior to MHI, Zimmermann served as manager, new business for Lennar Homes during its entry into the Houston market. His experience also includes serving as president of ClubCorp Realty, where he assisted in the acquisition of resort and country club oriented properties throughout the United States. He also previously served as vice president–regional manager for General Homes Corporation’s land development division in Houston, the country’s fourth largest homebuilder at that time. Zimmermann’s experience also includes 10 years as a project manager/development manager for land development engineering firms in the Houston and Austin markets.

Dan Hatten | Vice President, Finance & Investments

Dan Hatten leads the financial analysis, asset management and acquisition/disposition efforts for Ashlar Development. His work includes underwriting potential investment opportunities and maximizing return on project capital for residential and mixed-use real estate development assets.

Prior to Ashlar, Hatten worked for Crescent Communities as Director of Finance for more than three years. Hatten spent four years at Avere Equity Advisors, a real estate private equity firm, overseeing investment underwriting and capital markets for healthcare real estate development and acquisition transactions including hospital, medical office and senior living assets. Additionally, he has experience in financial and operational performance improvement for Tenet Healthcare as well as capital markets and investment banking, at Cowen and Company and Piper Jaffray & Co.

Kevin Huston | Vice President, Marketing & Brand

Kevin Huston is responsible for marketing strategy and brand management for the Ashlar portfolio and communities. Huston has more than 14 years of marketing communications experience with extensive experience in real estate and hospitality marketing. In addition to marketing and brand efforts, he directs media and builder relations, advertising, creative development, and community outreach opportunities.

Prior to Ashlar, Huston was Director of Marketing with Crescent Communities, overseeing the marketing efforts for Crescent’s Central Region Residential Communities. Huston spent more than four years at Flowserve Corporation, a fortune 500 company, managing marketing, global communications and public affairs. During that time, he contributed to and managed various components of a complete branding and digital overhaul of publicly-facing brand properties including website and interactive media development. In 2006, he worked for Lake Nona Property Holdings, a Tavistock company, focused on marketing and branding Lake Nona, a 7,000-acre mixed-use planned community in Orlando, Florida. Huston would oversee a rebrand and relaunch of the prestigious Lake Nona Golf & Country Club and was instrumental in the launch of the Lake Nona region development while coordinating event, community outreach and marketing opportunities.

Kim Caudle | Senior Controller

Kim Caudle, senior controller, manages, directs and controls the day-to-day accounting-related activities for Ashlar Development. In this role, she is responsible for ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), federal and state regulations and business policies. She oversees many of the complex accounting procedures associated with the company, investors, and projects while providing expertise and guidance to the company.

Prior to Ashlar, Caudle worked more than four years with Harwood International as corporate controller and with Tonti Properties as controller. She was responsible for overseeing property and corporate accounting activities for commercial and development of real estate investments. Caudle also worked as senior controller/vice president of accounting and finance for Terramesa Resorts/MacFarlan Capital Partners for more than three years. In her role, she was responsible for accounting and corporate fund reporting activities for hospitality and development companies involved in acquisition, development and management of master planned communities and land and residential real estate investments from private equity. She has also worked as a controller for Prime Asset Management for more than two years and Lincoln Property Company for more than eight years.

Mike Miller | General Manager

Mike Miller is currently the General Manager in Houston for Ashlar Development, primarily responsible for all residential performance at The Groves. In this role, Mike manages all strategic planning, development activities, acquisitions, homebuilder relations, pricing structure, product development and competitive strategies associated with the Houston market and region portfolio.

Prior to his work with Ashlar, Mike worked as a senior executive in land acquisition and development for various Houston homebuilders including CalAtlantic, Taylor Morrison and K Hovnanian. He also worked for mixed-use developer Sam Yager Incorporated and was responsible for residential development management and acquisition for their entire portfolio Mike has extensive experience and expertise in overseeing the development activity of company-owned property to achieve business plans and financial objectives. Over his tenure, he has developed more than 3,000 lots within more than 25 communities in the Houston area.

Mike graduated from The University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a Bachelor of Urban and Environmental Planning. He received his Master of Science in Land and Property Development at Texas A&M University and now serves on the Development Industry Advisory Council for the program. He is also involved in the Aggie Real Estate Network, Urban Land Institute, Greater Houston Builder's Association and Houston’s First Baptist Church.

Monique Hill | Real Estate Transactions Manager

Monique Hill is currently Real Estate Transactions Manager for Ashlar Development responsible for portolio-wide builder-related real estate closings for lot sale transactions, tracking compliance with purchase agreements, and inventory management tools. Prior to Ashlar, Hill worked for Crescent Communities for three years. Hill was instrumental in designing and managing the sync between the Lots Database and BrightDoor Inventory System. Prior to joining Crescent, Hill was a senior paralegal for Burdett Morgan Williamson & Boykin, LLP in Amarillo, Texas, where she assisted one partner and multiple associate attorneys with various real estate and corporate transactions.

Tiffany Darst | Assistant Project Controller

Tiffany Darst is currently Assistant Project Controller for Ashlar Development. In her current role, she manages accounting for the three multi-phase land development projects in Ashlar’s portfolio. Tiffany worked for Crescent Communities for three years prior to Ashlar, where she served as assistant project controller for the Texas residential projects. Since starting as project accountant, she has held various titles with increasing responsibility. Tiffany has more than six years of experience in project accounting with remodel and new construction projects, including residential land development and a chain of luxury brand hotels.

Becca Green | Marketing Manager

Becca Green manages the day-to-day marketing activities for all Ashlar development communities as well as supporting Ashlar brand initiatives. Prior to Ashlar, Becca worked for Crescent Communities for two years as marketing associate based in Houston, Texas and was responsible for day-to-day marketing activities for the Houston area projects. Her responsibilities include coordinating prospect, builder and realtor marketing programs, consumer awareness, advertising, prospect cultivation and digital and social enhancement opportunities.

Green’s background is in journalism and creative services such as video production, graphic design and photography efforts from her previous positions at KRIV-FOX 26 Houston and Bayou City Magazine. She currently serves on the Greater Houston Builders Association’s Sales & Marketing Council (SMC) Board of Directors; the largest SMC in the country.

Pete Garcia | Construction Manager

Pete Garcia is currently the Construction Manager for The Groves, based in Houston, Texas. Prior to Ashlar Development, Pete joined Crescent Communities in January 2014 as construction manager for Houston projects. In this role, manages construction schedules for The Groves, a 1,000-acre master planned community as well as contractor and subcontractor site work. Prior to his work with Crescent, Pete worked as a construction manager for Newland Communities in Houston for 12 years. Additionally, he worked as a construction superintendent for a general contractor for more than seven years and has warehouse supervisor experience. Pete was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps (USMC) in May, 1978 after four years of active duty.

Real Estate Development

The name Ashlar comes from ashlar stone and the building process. Like our developments, the creation of ashlar stone requires skill, endeavor and attention to detail. Although we are a new company, we are a group of experienced land development partners striving to create exceptional communities through a balance of experience, quality and a critical eye for doing what’s right . Great developers are defined by their projects. Each community starts with a vision, but it takes knowledge, experience, and hard work to complete the grand design on-time and on budget.
